Paper sizes and printer settings

Six settings decide whether the fold lands where it should. The quarter-fold fits an A2 envelope and the 5 x 7 fits an A7 envelope, both found at any office supply store.

SettingChooseWhy
Scale100% or "Actual size"Fit to page shrinks the card and moves the fold marks off their lines.
Paper sizeUS Letter (8.5 x 11 in)Both formats are laid out on Letter. On A4, choose "Fit to page" and expect a card about 3% smaller.
PaperPlain, or card stock about 65 to 80 lb (175 to 215 gsm)Plain paper folds fine. Card stock feels like a store card; check your printer takes it from the rear tray.
QualityNormal on plain paper, Best on card stockCard stock soaks up ink; the higher setting dries cleaner. If the printer offers a paper-type menu, pick card stock.
ColorColorThe accents are outlines and small blocks, so a card uses little ink.
5 x 7 only: two-sidedOn, flip on the short edgeThe inside has to line up behind the front. Print on plain paper first to learn which way your printer feeds.

Plain printer paper works. Card stock in the 65 to 80 lb range feels like a store card and still feeds through most home printers.

Quarter-fold, 4.25 x 5.5 in

  1. Print the PDF on one side of a US Letter sheet at 100% scale ("Actual size", not "Fit to page").
  2. Fold the sheet in half from top to bottom, printed side out. The small marks at the edges show where.
  3. Fold it in half again so the front design faces out and the fold is on its left. Write inside, sign it, done.

Half-fold, 5 x 7 in

  1. Print both pages on one sheet, two-sided, at 100% scale, flipping on the short edge. No two-sided printing? Print page 1, then feed the same sheet back in for page 2. Try it on plain paper first to learn which way your printer feeds.
  2. Cut on the corner marks with scissors or a paper trimmer. You end up with a 10 x 7 inch piece.
  3. Fold it in half on the center marks. That is a 5 x 7 card for a standard A7 envelope.

Frequently asked questions

Are these birthday cards really free?

Yes. Every card on this page is a free PDF with no account, no email and no watermark. Print as many as you need.

Can I download all of them at once?

Yes. Select the 6 cards and download one ZIP with a print-ready PDF per card, in either paper format. It is built on your device.

Are these mom cards safe for a family party?

Yes. All six are marked office-safe, which means nothing inside needs explaining to a grandparent or a coworker.

Can I put her name on the card?

Yes. Type her name in the personalize box and it goes on every preview and into the PDF, worked into the joke. Leave it empty and the card says "Mom" where a name would go.

Who writes the jokes?

Options are drafted with AI tools, and a person picks and edits each card before it is published here. Drafts that do not make the cut never become cards.
